Which Bible? PDF Print E-mail

It must be made clear that there is nothing like one Bible with a specific set of books. The number of books in the Bible actually depends upon the Church one follows (Protestant, Roman Catholic, Anglican, Greek Orthodox, Syriac etc.). They differ in number of books in both the Old Testament (Barnabos, Clement of Rome etc.) and the New Testament (Muratorian Canon, Canon of Origen, Cheltenham Canon etc.)

From an early date Muslim scholars recognized the danger of false testimony and hence false doctrine, and therefore developed an elaborate science for criticizing tradition. The basis of evaluation of any report in Islam concerned particularly with religion is based on the study of the text and its chain of narration. This simply means everything can be traced back to its roots.

Christianity is devoid of such a powerful science; especially the lack of an authentic chain of narration. Anyone can claim anything and people say what they wish - so how do we verify these biblical chapters and verses? Some questions to ask: what language was the Bible revealed in originally? Does this original exist today anywhere in the world?
